This is such an adorable game! Taxi did such a good job with the portraits

Small issue with not being able to back up, got stuck in a small area when trying to find my way to what I believe was the ending, if the crystal wasn't it. Either way, love the concept, and Idra is absolutely adorable, would love to see more of her~!

how can i move forward ? what are the controls ?

Even though it's just a short prototype, I adored the whole art style so very much that I simply had to recommend it! <3 Idra is such an adorable character and I wished for many more coop-puzzles between her and the little fishy. :) It's a cute game with much potential, it even has this slightly PlayStation graphics vibe without too wonky controls. Absolutely stunning. I hope we were able to drive some more people to play your game with our little video as well. <3

Best wishes,
Sebastian

Very cute game I like it, except the control is a little too difficult to swim around.

I love the concept and the characters are cute but the controls need a lot of work. I downloaded this a few days before I played so I had to re-read the description to know how to control the fish. The controls also left so quickly I got stuck in one of the alcoves of the crystal room and had to restart because I missed there was a swim backwards button. Getting down the tunnel to the second turn spot was really finicky because it seems like its curved but the fish controls like a tank so making him twist and turn down the tunnel was a pain in the butt.

Its not a bad game, you just have to work out some of the kinks in the controls responsiveness and maybe have the control tag stay up longer/put the full controls in the game description.

It also might help to have a little more direction in the Crystal room, I spent a long time trying to swim at/around that statue becuase it was a slightly different color to everything else so I thought it was cueing me to do something with the statue. It took me a little while to realise I was ment to be looking for a path out.

thank you! yeah, a lot of people had trouble with the controls, although they're kinda unique by design (jam games woo) they're presented poorly and that's on me.  I'm looking forward to revisiting Idra to fix those issues and give it a little extra polish

I can dig them being unique by design so yeah just polishing the presentation and maybe making them a touch more responsive would be all they really need! I hope you have fun with the project going forward!

I really enjoyed my time with Idra and the Little Fish. I loved the environmental design, the lighting and the fact that both characters in the story are co-dependant on each other. If I had one gripe, it'd be that the crystal puzzle feels a little cheap. Trial and error with a bunch of dead end doors wasn't very fun.

More please!

I've played a game and it was really cool I love it, but it was so confused to swim around with WASD and X (backward).

You did a wonderful job in 72 hours, damn!

The only thing I didn't love about this was that it was so short. I've seen another commenter say it, but I agree—you have something really special here, and I hope you consider fleshing it out a bit more. It's a wonderful experience that isn't bogged down by too many mechanics, and I love the premise of the entire thing. You can tell you took it seriously.

Anyways, thanks a lot for making it. I saw you plan on finishing the level at least, I'll definitely play it, but please consider expanding a bit! Even a 15 minute experience would be a better taste of this neat underwater world.

Here is my Lumps Play, hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed your creation:

Lumps Plays is pop-up commentary. No voiceovers, but pop-ups. Remember Vh1 videos? Check it out—you'll like it :D

I don't murder things and I hate poetry. So I guess I don't agree. Hahaha.

This game was super cute! I loved the cel-shaded look, and swimming around as a little fish was really fun. The music was also super pleasant and atmospheric. The controls were a bit awkward at first, but they really did a good job of capturing the feel of swimming around as a fish.

I'd love to see this get developed into a full game, with more characters and a story! Although when you do, I hope the little fish gets more capabilities... a dash function would be nice, or perhaps a sound to make that would call Idra to you. I like the gameplay mechanic of using Idra's light to guide you through darkened spaces!

(To be honest, I was a little worried that as an anglerfish, Idra would try to eat me! ;3;)

Nice! Very interesting atmosphere and I'm curious to see where the story will take the little and less-little fish :-P. Also, I dig the dither effect and the toon shading. Found the controls confusing at first, but I eventually got the hang of them and they are suitably fishy.

And I agree with the other poster; the music is stellar and a big part of what drew me in.

HOPE YOU LIKE MY GAMEPLAY OF IT!

oh man, I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to make a video. I don't want to get sidetracked too much from my team project, but I promise I'll be finishing at least the one level. please look forward to it and thank you!

I will! And hey, if you need a voice actor for it, let me know! I'm trying to get into voice acting lol

Not trying to step on your toes, but I think the game would suffer from voice acting! Fish don't speak.

Didn't mean the character I'm playing.... Maybe other characters if they're added later on.

Also, pixar kinda fixed that fish don't talk thing.....

(1 edit) (+2)

Just because Pixar did it doesn't mean all fish talk now. One of my favorite things about this demo was how the gameplay mechanics themselves were derived from actual characteristics of real fish—female anglers can't see, fish really swim by flapping, etc. plus I like the charm it has now, they could make voice overs for games like Animal Crossing too, but they don't for a reason.

DUDE! I LOVE THIS! PLEASE MAKE MORE! I'm gonna upload a video of it as soon as possible <3

The music and the art style just go so well together with this game. I wish the controls with the flapping went a little faster as you pressed left and right though. Especially trying to get through the gate.... It was a little frustrating, but I loved it nonetheless!
